ARA THE ALTAR

Ara is a southern polar constellation, translating from latin as ‘the altar’.

Ara was depicted in early illustrations as an altar with burning incense, rising smoke, or sacrificial offerings.

My interpretation of this translated into the responsible sourcing, creating & offering of beautiful, unique objects for earth-aware individuals upon a conceptual altar

REPURPOSED MATERIALS ONLY

Respectful of people & our planet, Ara does not support the environmentally damaging practices that pull precious metal out of the earth.

I am committed to working with only recycled solid silver & gold, including all chains and findings.

Every piece of Ara adornment can be passed on or melted down to begin its journey again.

CONSIDERED DESIGN & RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION

Adopting a slow approach I design for longevity not trend, with minimal waste and a circular economy in mind.

My workshop is powered by renewable energy and I adopt low-impact practices and recycle or compost materials which can be repurposed or returned to the earth.

PURPOSEFUL PACKAGING

All elements of Ara packaging have a purpose and can be recycled or composted.

The keepsakes that accompanies Ara adornment were designed in-house and are ethically made here in the UK with minimal waste, using ethically sourced European hemp fabric. I choose to work with hemp as it is a regenerative crop that works to keep CO2 from the air.

I naturally dye each batch of fabric with botanical or food waste by hand.

TLC

With a circular economy in mind, caring for your metal will prolong the life of your adornment.

LOW-IMPACT OBJECTS

As well as offering adornment upon the altar, I have also curated a small offering of objects for low-impact living, all made responsibly here in the UK by Ara and likeminded brands, with upmost respect for people and our planet along the way.
